Gorkha is about half way between Kathmandu to Pokhara. If you are riding a motor bike for the first time in Nepal I highly recommend a stop either at Gorkha or at Bandipur (which I love) on your way to Pokhara.
Gorkha has a unique place in Nepli history as the home of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who conquered and united all of Nepal’s kingdoms into one nation back in the 18th century….. it is worth visiting though? hmmm.. the main town is uninspiring. The old town however holds some charm. Not as nice as Bandipur though..IMO. The Gorkha Durban at the top of the mountain will take a couple of hours walk to get to. I did it by motorbike which made it easier. The views are amazing and the little temple itself was a nice experience. They do milk you though if you take a camera… entry jumps from 40 rupees to 350 rupees.. still that’s little so nothing to cry home about.
There are some nice places to have lunch or brekky overlooking the valley. Nice also is, there are hardly any western tourists. It’s a local attraction.
